The Little Wise Guy Countries: Starring Dougy Feipp

Filed under: Prosperity — dom @ 9:33 am

This (below) is an excerpt  from a piece in Washington Post today (Sunday the 29th of March 2009)….regarding tax havens, and more particularly Switzerland’s bank privacy laws coming under much pressure (bout time!) I giggled not a little upon uttering the words out loud to myself seen below: “the little wiseguy countries.”

“The world has had enough of con artists,” Bernhard Weissberg, editor in chief of Blick, a popular Swiss tabloid, wrote in a recent column. “And the big countries have had enough of the little wiseguy countries, whether they are called Andorra, Luxembourg or Switzerland.”

Indeed….we have had enough…even the many bellowing hypocrites who would do the same thing if they knew how, or were in a position to……..

Trash is the predictor… less trash….less the times are not ‘not so great?’

Filed under: Prosperity — dom @ 9:38 am

“The trash man is the first one to know about a recession because we see it first,” said Richard S. Weber, manager of the Loudoun County landfill. “Circuit City’s closing, so people aren’t going there and buying those big boxes of stuff and throwing away all that Styrofoam and shrink-wrap . . . and whatever they were replacing.”

Above is an excerpt from the Washington Post March 14th, 2009. It tells the story of how people in the trash business foresaw the sharp economic downtown after the bubbly zip-zipped from our fluted glasses of not really plenty… You see, in our country (not to say not elsewhere necessarily,) less completely wasteful trash ‘means’ times are not so great, and that is very sadly all too telling…. Keeping it brief, heading out to the park!
