I just read this in Randall Jarrell’s excellent and oh so moving ‘Poetry and The Age’
Odd…. I don’t think I will be able to forget the latter quote. It also summoned to mind, an often remembered piece of an Ezra Pound book (forget which.) Rather than precision, he was dealing with concision. He makes the very truth smacking and smoking lipped observation that
“Concision is an obscurity for the dullard.”
This may not always be so, (depends on the dullard in many ways…right?)…but when it is, and it wends itself to be often… IT IS…
